About Us

Beginnings

The fellowship now known as the Agape Family Worship Centre has had a rich and exciting history of ministry here in Grand Cayman over the past 51 years.

Our fellowship had its beginnings in 1954 as a "Church of Christ", meeting first in the home of our founders, Tom and Olga Adam, then at the George Town Town Hall, Savannah School House and the Copper Kettle in central George Town. Our members then built with their own hands and skills a permanent home on Hospital Road. In August 1998 we moved to our present sanctuary on Fairbanks Road.

A congregation of change

We remained a part of the "Church of Christ" for 20 years, then in the early 1970's, as a result of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the birthing of the Charismatic Movement around the world, several of our leaders experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. This led our members into new experiences of ministry and worship, and shortly afterwards a decision was made to cease our affiliation with the "Church of Christ". We then became known as the non-denominational, charismatic "Church on Hospital Road".

New location - new name

In the early 1990's, in anticipation of our move to a larger facility at a new location, we chose the name AGAPE FAMILY WORSHIP CENTRE.  This more accurately reflects the nature and character of our fellowship. Agape is the Greek word for love, the highest form of love; it is the love that God Himself demonstrates to and on behalf of His people. Agape is what we are about, what we aspire to be - LOVE.  The Agape Family Worship Centre is a congregation made up of people from every socio-economic level of society, and membership today is truly reflective of the various ethnic groups that make up our society today in Cayman. Our membership is equally as diverse in our backgrounds - Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Church of Christ, Church of God, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Seventh Day Adventist - to name but a few.

Outreach

Agape Family Worship Centre has a local outreach to those in hospital, to the under-privileged and to senior citizens. Our members are also active in many other local and international ministries including Canaan Land Home, Cayman Keswick, Cayman Ministers' Association, Cayman Renewal Ministries, Prison Fellowship Cayman Islands, Wycliffe Bible Translators Cayman and Family Foundations International. Our overseas outreach spans the world from Africa to Asia, Cuba to China and South America to Siberia.

Agape is a church on the move, and our vision is to reach our islands and the world with the love of God.
